Jill Bronfman Second Interview
We did a second interview with Jill Bronfman after our Indie Author Spotlight!
What does your writing ritual look like?
I’m a lawyer so I calendar things. 2024 was poem a day, 2025 was page a day. 2026 has been about promoting two books that are being published this year, but I still write and submit a lot.
What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received as an Indie Author?
I know the stereotype is that authors are introverts, so most advice is just to get out there a little bit. I’m way out there already, I’ve been a professor and a lawyer and spoken at mega conferences on big screens. So I kind of smile nicely at the advice to start small. I’m an embarrassingly enthusiastic person.
What’s your go-to book, movie, or musical artist when you need some inspiration (or just a break from the keyboard)? Why?
My son made a book trailer/short film for me for Thanks for Meeting Me Here. He composed the music and filmed it on the beach. It made me want to cry, it was so beautiful.
If you could snap your fingers and be “known” for one piece of your writing, what would it be? Is it something already published? Or is it something in your heart you’ve not yet written?
Oh, great question. I want to be known for a body of work rather than one piece, and I want people to describe me not as a prophetic writer about the future, but as someone who changed the future. A social justice worker in the arts.
Any other tidbits you wanna share?
I continue to write short stories and poems and publish them, and I want people to continue to read those even as I move into the novel space.
