Brice Davis Second Interview
We did a second interview with Brice Davis after our Indie Author Spotlight!
What does your writing ritual look like?
My writing process starts with reflection. I often spend time thinking about personal experiences and moments that carry significance. I prefer writing without distraction and with honesty. My goal is always to communicate something valuable that readers can connect with.
What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received as an Indie Author?
I haven’t received much bad advice as an indie author. Most of the advice I’ve gotten has come from people who genuinely wanted to help.
What I’ve learned is that not every piece of advice works for every author. Each writer has different goals, experiences, and audiences. I’ve found it most helpful to learn from different perspectives while staying true to my own voice and purpose.
What’s your go-to book, movie, or musical artist when you need some inspiration (or just a break from the keyboard)? Why?
When I need inspiration, I usually turn to music rather than books or movies. Artists like Tupac Shakur, Nipsey Hussle, J. Cole, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West have all inspired me in different ways.
If I had to narrow it down, Tupac and Nipsey Hussle have probably had the biggest impact on me. What inspires me is how they overcame struggles while still expressing hope, determination, and personal growth. Their music wasn’t just entertainment—it was storytelling. They shared real experiences that I could relate to.
As the author of Rise Anyway: A Memoir of Survival, I connect with that authenticity. My goal is similar in some ways: to tell my story in a way that encourages people not to give up when life becomes difficult. Whether through music or writing, I believe stories can help people feel understood, inspired, and motivated to keep moving forward.
That’s why I often turn to artists like Tupac, Nipsey Hussle, J. Cole, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West when I need inspiration or a reminder of what’s possible through perseverance and self-belief.
If you could snap your fingers and be “known” for one piece of your writing, what would it be? Is it something already published? Or is it something in your heart you’ve not yet written?
Without question, I would want to be known for Rise Anyway: A Memoir of Survival.
The book represents not only my story, but also a message that I believe is universal: life can be difficult, painful, and unpredictable, but our hardest chapters do not have to define the rest of our lives. No matter what we face, we can continue moving forward.
Any other tidbits you wanna share?
I believe that every person has a story worth telling. We often underestimate the impact our experiences can have on others. Whether through writing, conversation, or simply sharing what we’ve learned, our stories can encourage someone who may be going through a difficult season of their own.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that some of our greatest struggles can eventually become sources of strength, purpose, and hope for other people.
